EVOLUTIONARY AIKIDO 2020
Evolutionary Aikido is a perspective on the art that’s rooted in the fact that we all share one system, and are connected by it. Practice is process oriented, and involves not only the improvement of skills, but also an embodied transformation of ourselves. We look into where we are, what is next, and how we make space for this new level of understanding, ability, and awareness to take shape. Evolutionary Aikido is a way to explore this, and express the perspective of integrated unity in our Aikido.
This year’s theme is The Alchemy of Power and Wisdom. Saturday we’ll explore this through the practice of Aiki Combat Improv!
ACI is a unique supplemental practice offered in the Evolutionary Aikido Community. It’s an extension of Aikido freestyle (jiyuwaza) where uke is as free as nage to respond. It’s framed in order to synthesize the movements and principles of Aikido with an open context in which both partners can play and create. The goals are to facilitate (1) a deeper sense of embodied awareness, (2) a more fluid sense of responsiveness, and (3) power that honors the relationship. ACI is not locked down to techniques but free to be in organic relationship with the other. Gis/belts/hakamas are not worn. Dress in gi pants and t-shirt.
FRIDAY ~ 18:30-20:00 Evolutionary Aikido
SATURDAY ~ 10:00-16:00 Evolutionary Aikido (w/lunch break), 4:30 Yon-dan demo, 6:00pm dinner party.
